Alex Sun
is a newspaper columnist and luminary within the Chinese literary
community of Hong Kong. His literary career first started in 1950 with
several collections of short stories and two novels, after which it
took a detour when Sun assumed the executive positions of a
journalistic institution and industrial association. He nonetheless
continued to write, not only fiction but also literary criticism and
reviews. Before the Silk Road: The Saga of Zhang Qian, which he
has rewritten himself, is the first English rendering of Sun’s
On the Western Horizon: The Zhang Qian Saga, first published in
Chinese in 1963.
