Barbara Baker
Round
Poems and
Photographs of Asia

"Round is an accomplished and highly enjoyable collection of poems, a voyage of both geographical and psychological importance.... An excellent book."

Patricia Beer, poet and literary critic

"'People worry they won't understand the poems,' Baker says. 'To me, the most important thing about poetry is the words. Readers can share an aesthetic experience of enjoying the words and it doesn't matter if they don't understand the poem. In poetry, I try to describe the familiar in a new way, using new images so the reader recognises what's being described and also gets an added insight.'"

South China Morning Post

A poet, writer and editor, Barbara Baker's poems have been published in several literary magazines in England. Baker lived for several years in Hong Kong. She was a founding member of Outloud, Hong Kong's highly successful society of English-language poets, and her work is included in the Outloud anthology. While in Hong Kong she published widely – including in addition to Round, Shanghai: Electric and Lurid City (Oxford University Press) and Children in China (also with Madeleine Slavick).
