Adelaide-born Denis
Way served as a conscript with the Royal Australian Regiment in South
Vietnam in 1968-69. It awakened in him an interest in Asia that had
him giving up a promising public service career to seek out a
different life in Hong Kong.
Over the next
thirty years he worked in and from the ex-British colony, travelling
to many parts of Asia and throughout China as a trading company
executive. Before the Handover in 1997, he was director of a PRC
subsidiary.
He now
divides his time between Sydney and the Hong Kong SAR, writing
full-time. His projects include historical fiction and non-fiction
with an Asian focus. He is a member of the Australian Society of
Authors.
His first
novel, Fire Horse, inspired by his working experience, was
called ‘a compelling tale’ by Publishers Weekly. Yorkshire
Post said it was ‘a professionally written account of trade wars
and commercial rivalry with a touch of violence and expertise in
military matters – all good stuff,’ while Booklist
thought it was ‘massive and ambitious’ and compared it with the work
of James Clavell.
