Shirley Ingram came to Hong Kong in 1970 from Florida, USA, as a missionary from the Southern Baptist Convention. She studied Cantonese at New Asia College, where she was taught by Mrs Rebecca Ng. Mrs Ingram's questions and Mrs Ng's answers about the culture eventually led to them writing this book together. < >
